Flower Power: Ode to Warhol
An homage to Andy Warhol & his flower series. He & I are both from the Pittsburgh area, and so I thought a tribute to one of my favorite artists & hometown boy was necessary!
Done with a watercolor painting process referred to as "wet-on-wet". The paint is applied onto a wet canvas allowing magical things to happen as they mix & mingle in unexpected ways. Once dry, the painting is then enhanced with the liveliness of oil pastels to add additional texture & spontaneity.
A heavily textured layer of encaustic medium is then applied over the painting to protect it, and also to enhance its sculptural qualities. I encourage you to look at the close ups provided to get a better idea of how much additional beauty the encaustic wax adds to the piece.
An original painting created using high quality, artist grade encaustic, watercolor paints & oil pastels, on 140 lb. premium Arches watercolor 100% cotton fiber paper.
Dimensions: 12" x 16". Already mounted on a gorgeous 1.5" deep cradled wood panel giving it a contemporary look - no framing is necessary. Ready to hang on your wall!
